Caregiver Spotlight: Meet Megan!
Hometown: Lincoln, NE
Tell us something about yourself: My husband and I grew up together and even have home videos together as kids. I moved away when I was in third grade and was out of contact with him until I moved back to Lincoln, NE for college. My college roommate's cousin is my husband's best friend and so we started hanging out again and the rest is history. :)
What was your best home-care moment with a client?: My best home-care moment was when my client, her husband and I played Scrabble together. She had been feeling sick and not feeling up to doing much for quite some time, but when I arrived that morning she was feeling much better and ready to get up and get moving. I was extremely grateful to see her feeling so much better and have a pep in her step. She was excited to get the morning chores accomplished so we could play Scrabble together. We got the game all set up and her husband, who had never played Scrabble, joined in. We had such a fun time figuring out what words to play and had some good laughs when words were clearly made-up. It was such a fun moment playing, laughing, and enjoying each others company together. And even though the husband never had played before, he ended up winning!
If you are a student, where and what are you studying?: I graduated in May 2015 with my B.S. in Elementary Education from Union College (Lincoln, NE). I now work at Union College as the Academic Operations Specialist for Union College Online as well as a Caregiver for Home Care Partners of Nebraska.
Why do you like being a caregiver?: It brings me such joy to help others and be there for them when maybe they don't have anyone else. I love getting to know my clients and learning about them and the life they live. I always want to be there for them and see what I can do to make their day just a little happier.
